Storefront Mural Project

Scenes reminiscent of 1950s
embellish Assisted Living Center walls

Gig Harbor artist, Janice Wagner, has recently completed an installation of twenty-four painted murals in the Memory Care wings of four senior living facilities. The murals are located in Redmond, Washington, and other sites in California, Idaho and Oregon. The themes of the murals are storefront scenes reminiscent of 1950's Main Street America. Each mural includes real-life elements such as furniture, awnings, door handles, fruit crates and flower baskets. The objects add a tactile dimension to the scenes - which feature familiar, everyday settings from the residents' pasts. Everything works together to stimulate memories and encourage conversation. The murals also serve as landmarks and points of reference, helping residents find their apartments.

NOTE: For this project, all murals are 8' x 8'
